The Constitution of the United States of America
Additional Amendments, Amendment XXI, Section 2
Introduction:
The 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1933, repealed the 18th Amendment, which had established Prohibition. Section 2 of the 21st Amendment specifically addresses the transportation and importation of intoxicating liquors into the United States. It allows states to regulate the importation of alcohol and grants them the authority to enforce their own laws regarding the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages. This amendment marked a significant shift in U.S. policy regarding alcohol, ending a nationwide ban and allowing for its legal sale and consumption once again.
Actual Text:
“The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or possession of the United States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited. ”
