The main design principle of DocForma was to create a set of research and writing tools that complement your skills, are user-friendly, streamlined in function to facilitate content consumption, produce high-quality output, tightly integrated to save time, and enable you to create original, well-informed work products.
To achieve this, we first designed a summarizer that serves as the core of the DocForma toolset. Our team developed a set of algorithms that can process a diverse range of document types and structures under the covers. Our PDF parsing design can handle the majority of documents, regardless of whether the PDF is well-structured with readable text, unstructured, or generated as an image of text. The Summarizer can quickly and accurately process content whether it is uploaded from your device or read directly from the internet.
While we are proud of this accomplishment, we are also vigilant about the ever-changing landscape of content sources. That is why we are so focused on continually improving what DocForma can process.
In addition, we have included features to read Word documents, HTML, eBook formats like EPUB and MOBI, as well as plain text. Our primary focus on continuous improvement will allow us to enhance the tool's capabilities in other formats as well, which will be available in a future release.
DocForma's writing tools can be categorized into two groups: tools that assist with research, and tools that aid in creating high-quality original content by combining information gathered from your research. Content that is unique, original, and that you will feel confident using in your studies, teaching, or research.DocForma's writing tools can be divided into two categories: those that help with research and those that help in creating well-written original content by synthesizing information from your research. Content that is unique, original, and that you will be confident to use in your studies, teaching, or research.
The research tools are anchored by our GPT-based chatbot Pracey, which can respond to queries about your latest document summary, general questions or requests, and information about DocForma. Pracey can be used on its own from the top navigation bar, or while using the Summarizer.
The writing tools consist of a diverse set of functions including Grammar Checker, Paraphraser, Abstractor, Translator, Encoder, and the Navigator.
The Grammar Checker and Paraphraser will help you write high-quality content, as their names suggest. The Abstractor is a unique function that can help you produce an abstract of a longer text, which can be useful in writing an executive summary or other summarized works. The Translator and Encoder convert input text into another language or machine-readable code.
A key design consideration was to make it easy to move text between functions. For example, you can take a rough draft and run it through the grammar checker to correct grammatical and spelling errors. You can choose to reword some of the information. With just two mouse clicks, you can move the selected content to the Paraphraser and produce alternative phrasing. Or you may decide to create a summary of your final draft. Again, with just two clicks, you can generte the abstract you are looking for. One of DocForma's strongest attributes is the ability to easily flow content through the toolset with simple mouse clicks.
When it comes to clicks, our unique ClickNotes tools allow you to selectively save content such as data points, quotes, important paragraphs, or responses from Pracey. In one scenario, when using the summarizer for your research, you may need to capture important excerpts from each document you summarize. Later on, you can take some or all of the ClicNotes and create a single summary or abstract. Both the summarizer, which is most suitable for longer texts, and the Abstractor are well suited for this task.
We have also utilized the power of internet search to not only locate the content you require but also seamlessly integrate it into study or research projects. Navigator works smoothly with both the Summarizer and Pracey.
